Traditional Bedding
Many homes feature bedrooms decorated with comforters and bedspreads; traditionally a bedspread was considered the standard in tasteful décor. Some bedspreads are treasured as family heirlooms passed from generation to generation while others are purchased with the intention of beginning a new family tradition. A classic example of an heirloom-quality bedspread is the Colonial Williamsburg William and Mary matelasse bedspread inspired by an antique coverlet found in the historical concerns textile collection. Such a bedspread would make a thoughtful wedding or housewarming gift. Chenille bedspreads are experiencing a resurgence in popularity perhaps tied to the interest in vintage furniture and retro décor themes.
Despite the traditional and timeless nature of bedspreads, comforters have taken hold as an easy and attractive bedding solution for many homes and despite the modern nature of a quilt or comforter set it’s still possible to maintain an elegant and traditional bedroom décor. Brands such as Laura Ashley and Nautica offer a wide range of comforters and quilt sets ideally suited for a traditional or colonial home – good design never goes out of style. The Nautica Knot’s Bay comforter set features clean classic stripes and two shades of blue with white – a timeless design. The comforter reverses to a navy and white stripe pattern for a coordinating look and crisp white sheets feature navy details on the cuffs and hems for a stylish finishing touch. The result is a contemporary comforter set which will work in any décor from modern to traditional and stand the test of time.
